Abraxas, Issue 2, Summer Solstice 2011

This issue contains Jon Crabb’s “Brion Gysin: Shaman of the Beat Hotel,” pp. 13–32.  This essay includes two reproductions of works by Brion Gysin: an untitled calligraphic painting from 1960 on page 14 and an untitled drawing (in grayscale) from 1960 on page 26.

Pages 20–21 contain a photograph by Harold Chapman of Brion Gysin in front of a Dreamachine at the Beat Hotel, 9 rue Gît-le-Cœur, Paris.

Brion Gysin is also mentioned in Ian MacFadyen's essay on Ira Cohen's Mylar photographs entitled "The Far Side of the World's Mirror."

A softcover and a hardcover edition (of 250 copies) were produced, with 200 numbered pages and a compilation CD entitled Tesserae 1.0. Of the 250 hardcover copies, 50 were designated for contributors, and the remaining 200 were for sale, including a silkscreen print by Barry William Hale. Pictured is the hardcover copy in the archive.
